"Those who approach the sacrament of Penance obtain pardon from the mercy of God for the offence committed against Him and are at the same time reconciled with the Church, which they have wounded by their sins, and which by charity, example, and prayer seeks their conversion"
(Lumen Gentium, 11).
There are several names for the Sacrament of Penance. Sometimes it is called the Sacrament of Reconcilliation. Sometimes it is called Confession and other times it is called the Sacrament of Conversion. These various names each emphasize a different aspect of the Sacrament of Penance. Through the participation in this Sacrament, we are reconciled with God, reconciled with the Church, forgiven of our sins, and given grace to aid us in our ongoing conversion.
